RCP’s Tom Dalrymple recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony, signalling the commencement of construction on-site.
The new apartment block in Adelaide’s CBD will support older women at risk of homelessness, providing safe and secure housing, with on-site support services.
Based on data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Mission Australia reports that:
- More than 7,300 women aged 55+ are homeless in Australia
- The number of homeless women aged 55+ has risen 30 per cent in the last 5 years.
RCP Director Tom Dalrymple commented,
“This is an important initiative to support some of Adelaide’s most vulnerable women and a project RCP is proud to provide our services to.”
The Tucker Street development will include five studio apartments accessible for people with mobility requirements.
The site will be run by the SA Housing Trust. An on-site community wellbeing manager will support tenants to manage any issues that may impact on their tenancy and the community, as well as access to support services.
The Trust will collaborate with community and health services to provide in-reach services, with on-site tenant facilities that include meeting rooms, a computer room that enables tenants who don’t own a device to access online services, free wi-fi, multi-use spaces and communal gardens for well-being.
RCP is providing project management, superintendent and programming services.
The apartments are expected to be completed in 2026.
