On Completion in 1998 this state of the art public aquarium situated in the Zoological Gardens in Guangzhou China, was the largest salt water aquarium in the world.
The complex includes a reef tank with acrylic encapsulated escalators which permit viewing of fish in a reef environment. Feature tanks, over two floors, display fish in a river source to sea theme.
The dolphin auditorium provides seating for 1,400 visitors and includes holding tanks, a hospital area and display tanks. The largest membrane roof structure to be erected in China encloses the auditorium. Shark and penguin display areas complete the complex along with facilities around the aquarium including souvenir shops and dining areas.
The complex including the themed displays, artificial rockwork and life support systems were designed by Brisbane based Architects, Living Ocean International.
RCP provided Project Programming services including assistance to the Chinese construction contractor as part of the Living Ocean International team.
