RCP’s North Queensland Manager, Orlando Pullin travelled to Newcastle as part of a delegation of Townsville community, industry and political leaders on a regional revitalisation study tour hosted by The Property Council of Australia.
Newcastle has been one of Australia’s revitalisation success stories, having achieved significant urban regeneration after a long-term period of downturn. Townsville has a lot to learn from Newcastle’s growth as both cities are the largest regional centres in their respective states striving to emerge from downturns in the resources sector and both are port cities with former shipping and rail infrastructure clogging up prime riverfront land.
The PCA regional revitalisation study tour examined the infrastructure commitments which attracted private sector investment to Newcastle and triggered economic growth. By studying the lessons of Newcastle, the team is hoping to learn from the city’s success and drive long term growth in Townsville.
